About Citizens Advice Campaigns
At Citizens Advice West Berkshire we are committed to campaigning to improve the lives of our clients and to make a difference for residents across our region. We use our clients’ experiences to inform our campaigns at local level and to contribute to national campaigns run by Citizens Advice.

Ongoing Campaigns
The ongoing cost of living crisis continues to be the focus of Citizens Advice campaigns. Citizens Advice research shows that 5 million people across England, Scotland and Wales, are now in a household with a negative budget, including 1.5 million children. A further 2.35 million people are living on empty – they’re only escaping a negative budget by cutting their essential spending back to unsafe levels.
Citizens Advice is calling on the government to adopt policies to support people by:
- uprating working age benefits using the Household Costs Index
- improving access to social tariffs for water, broadband and motor insurance
- expanding the Warm Home Discount and energy support
Past Campaigns
Previously, Citizens Advice has successfully campaigned for measures to help people with the cost of living. As a result, the government included in successive budgets:
- uprating of benefits in line with inflation
- increasing the Local Housing Allowance
- extending the Household Support Fund
- abolishing the £90 fee for a Debt Relief Order
